Anaplastic ependymoma (WHO grade III) is a malignant glioma of ependymal origin with accelerated growth and an unfavorable outcome, particularly in children (Wiestler et al. 2000d).
Imaging and Location
Based on imaging findings the anaplastic form presents with a stronger enhancement but cannot be differentiated based on its morphologic characteristics.
Prognostic correlations between histology and clinical outcome have been inconsistent. In a large series, no correlation between survival times and classic histopathological findings of malignancy were observed.
